It is no secret that the economy in Michigan is suffering. Michigan jobs are harder to come by than ever. That did not, however, stop it from being a huge embarrassment when I lost my job and had a lot of trouble finding another one.
I have a family to support, after all, and a good Michigan job was something I just couldn't find. It wasn't that I wasn't qualified. I had an architectural degree from a major university, and had quite a bit of work history in my field. In addition, I have some work in the past as a graphic designer, so I am a well-rounded individual. It wasn't that I was not looking either - I was looking at Michigan classifieds every day, but all to no avail.
I tried going to a temporary employment agency as a way to find something to tide me over in the meantime. That worked pretty well for a while. Within a week, I had several Michigan jobs offers, but none of them were great. Nonetheless, I was making a living - not a very good one but a living. Still, I thought that I would keep looking for more exciting Michigan jobs.
In retrospect, it didn't really take me that long to find the job that I was looking for. I was only underemployed for about six months - long enough to be a financial burden and an emotional one as well, but not long enough to really break me. Soon, I found a prestigious Michigan career in an architectural firm. It was great money, and the opportunities were out of this world. Jobs in Michigan are hard to come by, but I'm glad that I persevered. By continuing to look for a really good job to support my family with, I was able to find what I needed.
If you're having a lot of trouble looking for Michigan jobs, I advise you to follow my lead. The first thing to do is to find some temporary employment. It might be a long time before you can find them career of your choice, so don't count on it. Keep job hunting for a few months and see what pans out. You might find a temp to permanent position that works out for you, or alternately, you might come up with something else to do in the meantime. The most important thing to remember is to always keep your spirits up. I did and I'm glad of it.
